Part of the Central Nervous System
PARTS:
The Cerebrum
-
lgest and most developed part: what makes human separate from animals
 -
has 2 hemispheres separated with different jobs connected by a small bridge called the corpus callosum

Celebral Cortex
-
Cerebrum surafce layer, divided into 4 major regions:
-
FRONTAL LOBE
-
Intellectual activities + personality
 -
Control voluntary muscle movement

 -
 -
PARIETAL LOBE
-
Touch and temperature awarness
 -
Emotions and interpret speech

 -
 -
TEMPORAL LOBE
-
Vision and hearing
 -
Link to memory and sensory info interpretation

 -
 -
OCCIPITAL LOBE
-
Vision
 -
Interpret visual info

 -

 -

The Hindbrain
1. CEREBELLUM controls limb movement, balance + muscle control
2. PONS=relay stations sending messages between cerebellum + medulla oblongata
3. MEDULLA OBLONGATA=Autonomic nerve control centre (ex. breathing and heart rate, blood vessel diameter)
Thalamus and Basal Nuclei
-
Thalamus is the brain region interpreting sensory info and signalling cerebrum
 -
Basal Nuclei is grey matter centres surrounding thalamus

Left and Right Brain
-
LEFT: verbal and math
 -
RIGHT: intuititive, spacial, artistic and musical
